Clay Club
Inquire via email if you have ANY questions!
As we head into a new busy school year, I know some young souls will be itching for an outlet after being contained in class all week long. I'm excited to offer a "Clay Club" for kids as a chill weekend activity to help them unwind from the week before, and to have something exciting to look forward to sharing with their peers. Clay is versatile. It encourages extended focus, bilateral coordination, problem solving and creative thinking. It can boost self esteem and offer a rewarding feeling to work towards a finished product over multiple weeks.
Everyone will go home with 3 guided projects, plus whatever they create on the pottery wheel and in their free time. The clay and glaze we use is food safe & dishwasher safe, meaning your peek-a-boo mugs are intended to be used and loved!
The projects we will create are:
- Customized Name Plaque for Bedroom Wall/Door
- Peek-a-Boo mug - Personalized - Each child will pick a theme for their mug/characters
- Tic-Tac-Toe Game - Each child will choose a theme (ex. milk + cookies) and create a customized tic-tac-toe board and matching playing pieces.
- Pottery Wheel Lesson - Kids will spend two sessions learning how to make projects on the pottery wheel.
Kids will have time towards the end of their session that is completely open for free creation, and on our final workshop, we will bring everything to life by painting our projects with underglaze colours.
Class size is kept small ( a maximum of 6 kiddos) to ensure that each of them receive the opportunity for 1:1 support from Maddison.
This workshop is open for kids ages 5-12
SESSION ONE - NAME PLAQUES
kids will design their own unique plaques to hang on their bedroom doors
SESSION TWO - PEEK A BOO PINCH POTS
kids will build a mug using the pinch pot method, then sculpt a character that will hide inside of their mug
SESSION THREE - MAKE YOUR OWN TIC TAC TOE GAME
kids come inspired to create their own unique tic tac toe game. Instead of X's and O's, we will use our imagination to make a food themed tic tac toe board. The finished project will be a fun game for the whole family to enjoy for years to come!
SESSIONS FOUR + FIVE - POTTERY WHEEL
ready to get muddy? for two sessions in a row, the kids will get to let loose and take a spin on the pottery wheels. they will learn about wedging clay, getting clay centred on the wheel, pulling up walls, and adding shape to make a bowl or cup.
SESSION SIX - DECORATING + PAINTING
Our final session is dedicated to adding colour and decorating our projects using special ceramic underglaze. At the end of session 4 your kids will dip their projects into clear glaze and let the kiln work its magic!
You will be notified via e-mail in 2-4 weeks when your child's pottery workshop projects are ready to be picked up from our pick up station outside of the studio.
